Equity? SIP??- It’s Moso!

Posted by Muthu on January 26, 2014

Happy Republic Day.

I got a forward recently. I also read this few months ago in a different form at an advisor forum. I’m only going to share the details with you. You can very well connect it to equity and SIPs where growth happens in spurts (remember my piece about missing the best days in the market?) and not in a linear predictable manner.

The Moso is a bamboo plant that grows in China and the Far East.

This is how the process works:

Till the ground and plant the bamboo seed. Water, manure and weed regularly. Barricade the area from the possible intruders.

First Year: Nothing seems to happen.

Water, manure and weed regularly.

Second year: Nothing seems to happen.

Water, manure and weed regularly.

Third Year: Nothing seems to happen.

Water, manure and weed regularly.

Fourth Year: Nothing seems to happen.

Water, manure and weed regularly.

Fifth Year: The shoot emerges from the ground.

After the shoot emerges from the ground, it grows 90 feet in 90 days.

What was happening in those long 5 years?

Underneath it was developing the required miles of roots and the strength to support the height and width of its explosive growth; five years of getting ready.

In life we often hurry and want things at our own phase ignoring the natural phase.

When we continue to do right things, rewards come in due course.

Stay the course.

Good Luck.
